A rare set were produced for the (accepted as worlds rarest hunting book of the era) Delinations of British Field Sports together with the Various Methods of Poaching printed in 1821. see reference from Christies (London) December 2023; Alken creates beautifully hand-coloured compositions of the British countryside, including three moonlit night scenes. Delineations is the only published work by the artist and was first issued in six monthly parts in wrappers (no copy known). Following this initial run a book was issued in two states: uncoloured on drab paper, a copy of this form housed in Mellon Collection; or the more luxurious issue with coloured lithographs on white paper, as seen here. The prints depict different aspects of Hare Coursing, that is, the hunting of hares with greyhounds and on horseback. The four are titled: GOING OUT, FINDING, COURSING and THE DEATH. They are the work of the artist Richard Jones and the copper plate is engraved by Charles Turner. The prints were published in London by R Ackermann, in 1821. These mezzotints are a later issue, probably around the early 1900s. Titled; Going Out. Finding. Coursing. & The Death. 22" x 19" they can be trimmed with ease to fit standard 20"x16" or 500mm x 400mm frames available from all High street outlets.
